Narwhal is pleased to present Three Knocks, a group exhibition featuring new work by Katy Horan, Adrienne Kammerer and Jamiyla Lowe. Drawing inspiration from the despair and dramatics found in antiquated practices, superstitions and folklore, the artists reveal glimpses into the corners of our collective memory, illuminating mortal fears and the practices developed to control the human condition that plagues us all. In this new body of oil paintings, Reid continues his role as a documentarian, exploring the role of traditional portraiture as a relevant and timeless method of celebrating human achievement while rejecting the notion of reserving these rites to specific social classes. As much autobiographical as fantastical, Reid re-imagines his friends, family and heroes in historic settings, playing homage to their integrity and passion. Often depicting masked figures, Reid uses costuming to conceal their desire, intentions and fears. Reid skill as a painter lends each persona an air of grandeur and intimacy not often revealed.

Mark Peckmezian, born 1985, is a Toronto-based artist and
commercial photographer. Working within portraiture and
documentary photography, Mark attempts to leverage the analog-
digital divide, producing work that draws into relief the enduring
value of analog-ness in our new digital-dominated photographic
landscape. He recently completed his BFA in Photography from
Ryerson University in Toronto, and is represented for commercial
and editorial work by agency Stash, at Stashartists.com.
His photographs have been published in Prefix Photo, and on the
cover of Report on Business and Function, and have been selected
for inclusion in Flash Forward, touring internationally.

Adopting the role of archivist, Reid presents a collection of semi-historical, allegorical oil paintings, immortalizing a cast of misfits and their matches. Drawing on a personal mythology developed through the formation of his own surreptitious college fraternity, Reid explores the rationale and consequences behind people's tendencies to band together against forces they perceive as evil and the reactions expressed when faced with resistance. Inside the solar temple of the cosmic leather daddy

Munro’s exhibition Inside the Solar Temple of the Cosmic Leather Daddy combines several of the artist’s interests and obsessions. The spiritual iconography of ancient Egypt meets the Queer leather subculture of the 1970’s. Through worship and remembrance, Munro revisits the lives lost during the 1980’s AIDS epidemic, endows them with a sense of eternal life, and allows them to still be present among us. Spurred by his ongoing battle with terminal illness, he has submerged himself in the underworld of temples and glory holes, death and transformation, Kenneth Anger, Georges Bataille, Susan Sontag and King Tut. Runs until March 27th at Paul Petro Contemporary Art.

PUNCHLOCK SHOWCASE 3 is happening this weekend. It runs for two days (Friday November 27th and Saturday November 28th) at Whippersnapper Gallery (587A College St.). It's $7 for one night or $10 for both nights. If you can only make it one night then I recommend going on the first night. My buddy Simone will be playing drums for LSDOUBLEDCUP and she's awesome.
